The Greatest Question You Will Ever Answer

“If You Died Today, Are You 100% Sure You Would Go To Heaven?”

There are many questions people ask throughout life.

What career should I choose?
Who should I marry?
Where should I live?
How can I make more money?
How can I stay healthy?

Yet there is one question greater than all the others combined:

“If you died today, are you absolutely sure you would go to Heaven?”

Most people spend more time planning a vacation than preparing for eternity. We prepare for retirement, emergencies, storms, and financial difficulties—but many never prepare for the certainty of death.

The Bible says in Hebrews 9:27:

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

Death is not merely a possibility—it is an appointment every human being will one day keep.

The real question is not whether you will die.
The real question is: Where will you spend eternity?

The Illusion Of “Good Enough”

Many people believe they are going to Heaven because they are “good people.”

They may say:

  • “I try to do right.”
  • “I’m better than most people.”
  • “I go to church sometimes.”
  • “I believe in God.”
  • “I was baptized.”
  • “I help others.”
  • “I’m religious.”

But salvation is not based upon human goodness.

The Bible says in Romans 3:10:

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”

And Romans 3:23 declares:

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

God’s standard is not “better than average.”
God’s standard is perfection.

Even one sin makes us guilty before a holy God.

James 2:10 says:

“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”

That means:

  • One lie
  • One lustful thought
  • One act of hatred
  • One moment of rebellion
  • One sinful deed

…is enough to separate us from God forever.

This is why salvation cannot be earned.

If Heaven could be earned by good works, then nobody would need a Savior.

The Bad News Before The Good News

Many people want to hear about Heaven without hearing about sin, judgment, or Hell. But unless we understand the bad news, the good news of the Gospel will never truly make sense.

The Bible teaches that sin carries a penalty.

Romans 6:23 says:

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The word “wages” means payment.

Sin pays wages.

The payment is death—physical death, spiritual death, and eternal separation from God.

Revelation 20:14-15 gives a sobering warning:

“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

Hell is not a fairy tale.
Hell is not symbolic.
Hell is not temporary.

Jesus Himself spoke more about Hell than anyone else in the Bible because He wanted people to understand the seriousness of rejecting God’s salvation.

God does not send people to Hell because He hates them.

People are condemned already because of sin.

John 3:18 says:

“He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already…”

But the story does not end there.

God’s Love In The Midst Of Judgment

The most amazing truth in all the universe is this:

God loved sinners enough to make a way for salvation.

Romans 5:8 says:

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Notice what that verse does NOT say.

It does not say Christ died for good people.

It does not say Christ died for religious people.

It says:

“While we were yet sinners…”

Jesus Christ came into this world to save the guilty.

Luke 19:10 says:

“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, fulfilled the Law perfectly, and willingly went to the cross to pay for our sins.

He took the judgment we deserved.

Isaiah 53:5 says:

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

On the cross, Jesus was not dying for His own sins.

He had none.

He was dying for ours.

The Cross Was Not An Accident

Some people think Jesus was merely a victim of history.

The Bible teaches otherwise.

Jesus willingly laid down His life.

John 10:17-18 says:

“I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself…”

The cross was God’s plan from the beginning.

Jesus endured:

  • Mocking
  • Scourging
  • Beatings
  • A crown of thorns
  • Nails through His hands and feet
  • Public humiliation
  • The wrath of God against sin

Why?

Because He loved you.

Every drop of blood testified of God’s mercy.

Every wound declared God’s love.

And after Jesus died, He was buried in a borrowed tomb.

But the story did not end there.

He Rose Again

Three days later, Jesus Christ rose bodily from the grave.

Death could not hold Him.

The tomb could not contain Him.

The stone could not stop Him.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 says:

“…Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”

The resurrection proves:

  • Jesus is the Son of God
  • The payment for sin was accepted
  • Death was defeated
  • Eternal life is available

A dead savior cannot save anyone.

But Jesus is alive forevermore.

Because He lives, there is hope.

Because He lives, forgiveness is possible.

Because He lives, eternal life is offered freely.

Salvation Is A Gift

One of the greatest misunderstandings in the world is the idea that salvation must be earned.

But the Bible repeatedly teaches salvation is a gift.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says:

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

You cannot:

  • Work for salvation
  • Buy salvation
  • Inherit salvation
  • Baptize yourself into salvation
  • Join a church into salvation

Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ.

Acts 4:12 says:

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Jesus did not say He was a way.

He said in John 14:6:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

What Does It Mean To Believe?

Biblical faith is more than intellectual agreement.

Many people believe facts about Jesus without personally trusting Him for salvation.

True saving faith means placing your trust completely in Jesus Christ alone to save you.

It means realizing:

  • You cannot save yourself
  • Your good works cannot remove your sin
  • Jesus paid the full price
  • His death, burial, and resurrection are sufficient

Imagine being on an airplane that is going down.

A parachute is offered to you.

You may believe the parachute exists.
You may admire the parachute.
You may study the parachute.

But until you place your full trust in it, you have not depended upon it.

Salvation means placing your eternal trust completely in Christ.

Religion Cannot Save You

Religion has sent millions of people into false security.

You can:

  • Attend church every week
  • Be baptized
  • Read the Bible
  • Give money
  • Say prayers
  • Sing hymns

…and still be lost.

Jesus warned in Matthew 7:22-23:

“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name?…
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me…”

Notice they had religion.

But they did not have a relationship with Christ.

Christianity is not about rituals.

It is about being born again.

Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:3:

“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

You Must Make A Decision

One of the most dangerous things a person can say is:

“I’ll think about it later.”

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:2:

“…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

Tomorrow is not promised.

Life is fragile.

A heartbeat away from eternity.

A car accident.
A stroke.
A heart attack.
An unexpected tragedy.

Thousands enter eternity every single day without warning.

The devil loves procrastination because delayed decisions often become permanent decisions.

You do not have to understand every doctrine in the Bible to be saved.

You simply must come to Christ by faith.

How To Be Saved

The Gospel is simple enough for a child to understand.

1. Admit You Are A Sinner

Romans 3:23 says:

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Stop comparing yourself to others.

Compare yourself to God’s holiness.

2. Realize The Penalty For Sin

Romans 6:23 says:

“For the wages of sin is death…”

Sin separates us from God.

3. Believe Jesus Died And Rose Again

Romans 5:8 says:

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

And 1 Corinthians 15 teaches that He rose again the third day.

4. Trust Christ Alone

Acts 16:31 says:

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…”

Not partly Christ and partly your works.

Christ alone.

5. Call Upon Him

Romans 10:13 says:

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

A Simple Prayer Of Faith

Prayer itself does not save.

Jesus saves.

But prayer can express the faith of your heart.

You may pray something like this:

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I know I deserve judgment for my sin. But I believe You died on the cross for me and rose again from the dead. I place my trust completely in You alone to save me. Please forgive my sins and give me eternal life. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”

If you sincerely trusted Christ alone as your Savior, God promises eternal life.

Can You Really Know You Are Saved?

Absolutely.

The Bible says in 1 John 5:13:

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…”

Salvation is not based upon feelings.

It is based upon God’s promise.

Jesus said in John 5:24:

“He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

Notice the certainty:

  • “Hath everlasting life”
  • “Shall not come into condemnation”
  • “Is passed from death unto life”

That is security in Christ.

What Should You Do Next?

If you trusted Christ as Savior:

  • Read your Bible daily
  • Pray regularly
  • Find a Bible-believing church
  • Grow in your faith
  • Share the Gospel with others
  • Publicly confess Christ

Jesus said in Matthew 10:32:

“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.”

Do not be ashamed of Jesus.

He was not ashamed to die for you.

The Final Invitation

One day, every person reading this article will step into eternity.

Money will not matter.
Fame will not matter.
Possessions will not matter.

Only one thing will matter:

What did you do with Jesus Christ?

The greatest tragedy in life is not dying young.

The greatest tragedy is dying without Christ.

Jesus Christ stands ready to forgive, save, and give eternal life to all who come to Him by faith.

John 6:37 says:

“…him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

That invitation is still open today.

But one day, it will close forever.

Do not wait.

Come to Christ today.
